Dover Water System Information

The Town of Dover is responsible for providing it’s citizens with clean and safe drinking water.  The Town and its employee’s take great pride in this responsibility and strive to provide our citizens with the best possible service and water quality. It is also the responsibility of the Dover Water System to be in compliance with all State and Federal regulations; a matter we do not take lightly.

At the heart of the Dover Water System is a Grade III Water Treatment Plant. We require our operators to have a Grade III or higher State Certification to operate this facility. The Water Treatment Plant pumps raw water from the Cumberland River and utilizes gravity/conventional filtration units and an 80,000 gallon clearwell for treatment processes. The filtration units along with the High Service Pumps are capable of producing a maximum flow rate of 600 gallons per minute of potable water to the Distribution System. Accounting for normal processing and maintenance, the Water Treatment Plant is capable of producing approximately 700,000 gallons of clean drinking water per day. Average daily flow of potable water from the Water Treatment Plant is approximately 310,000 gallons per day currently.

The Water Distribution System for the Town of Dover is comprised of 4 storage tanks and 70+ miles of water main strategically located to provide the best average water pressure and needed water volume for our customers. With the 4 above ground storage tanks and the Water Plant Clearwell, the Dover Water System has a combined capacity of 980,000 gallons of potable water storage.

The Water System is meeting customer demands for water usage and reserve storage 7 days a week, with 3 State Certified Plant Operators and 5 State Certified Distribution System Operators. The Dover Water Treatment Plant is also a State Certified Laboratory for Microbiology in drinking water sampling, providing Bac-T sampling services to other local utilities in Stewart County and other surrounding counties.
